Diana Penty film shows growth despite Rustom : Happy Bhag Jayegi box office collection day 3

The latest news about Diana Penty’s comeback film Happy Bhag Jayegi might bring her some relief. The film, which opened moderately at the box office on Friday, saw growth in its collections by Sunday.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#HappyBhagJayegi Fri 2.32 cr, Sat 3.81 cr, Sun 4.58 cr. Total: ₹ 10.71 cr. India biz… Has to stay afloat on weekdays to leave a mark.”

The film which is struggling to stay upbeat amidst the mega turnover of Akshay Kumar’s Rustom, seems to be gaining momentum majorly by word of mouth publicity. Rustom has crossed the Rs 100-crore mark and is ruling the charts ever since its release last week. It has also taken down Hrithik Roshan’s much-anticipated film Mohenjo Daro.

Akshay who doesn’t have to try too hard to capture the ticket windows, was eating up the moolah for Happy Bhag Jayegi too. However, if Diana’s film manages to maintain the upswing for few more days, it might just become one of the sleeper hits this year. Happy Bhag Jayegi is a rom-com about a runaway bride from Amritsar, who mistakenly lands up in Lahore. Its apparent ban in Pakistan for showing a portrait of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is nevertheless affecting its overseas business.

Made at a moderate budget, the film also stars Abhay Deol, Jimmy Shergil, Ali Fazal and Piyush Mishra. Directed by Mudassar Ziz and produced by Tanu Weds Manu filmmaker Anand L Rai, the film has at least brought Diana back into the arena. Considering her part in her last film Cocktail was much appreciated, her fans are now waiting to see her more on the big screen.

BMW car to PV Sindhu present by Sachin Tendulkar

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar will be presenting a BMW car to star shuttler PV Sindhu for bringing laurels to the country by winning a silver medal at the Rio Olympics.

The BMW car is being sponsored by Tendulkar’s close friend and president of Hyderabad Badminton Association of India V Chamundeswaranath.

“Sindhu will be gifted a BMW car by Mr Chamudeswaranath and his friends. Mr Sachin Tendulkar will be presenting the car to Sindhu,” said Punnaiah Choudary, BAI Secretary (Tournaments), who had accompanied the team in Rio.

Four years ago, Tendulkar had present a BMW to ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, who had returned with a bronze medal at the London Olympics.Tendulkar had also presented a Maruti Swift to Sindhu, who had won the girls’ singles title in the Asian Youth Under-19 Championship in 2012.

Arjuna award for PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Dipa Karmakar to get Khel Ratna, Ajinkya Rahane declared

The Sports Ministry on Monday announced that Rio Olympics medallists shuttler P.V. Sindhu and wrestler Sakshi Malik will receive the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award along with gymnast Dipa Karmakar and shooter Jitu Rai.

Considered as the country’s highest sporting honour, the Khel Ratna award is conferred on a sportsperson for outstanding performance over a period of four years. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs.7.5 lakh along with a medal and a citation.

Dipa’s coach Bisheshwar Nandi has been selected for the Dronacharya award along side Team India skipper Virat Kohli’s coach Raj Kumar Sharma, athletics coach Nagapuri Ramesh and boxing coach Sagar Mal Dhayal.

Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand received the coveted award in 2009 while Sakshi’s coach Kuldeep Singh has been overlooked for the award.
The Dronacharya awards for lifetime will be awarded to veteran swimming coach S. Pradeep Kumar and wrestling coach Mahabir Singh. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh each with a medal and a citation.

Star cricketer Ajinkya Rahane will be conferred on with the Arjuna Award alongside archer Rajat Chauhan, athlete Lalita Babar, cueist Sourav Kothari, boxer Shiva Thapa, footballer Subrata Paul, hockey stars V.R. Raghunath and Rani Rampal, shooters Gurpreet Singh, Apurvi Chandela, paddler Somyajit Ghosh, wrestlers Vinesh Phohat, Amit Kumar, Para-athletes Sandeep Singh Maan and Virender Singh.

The award constitutes a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh and medal and a citation.
Athlete Satti Geetha will be conferred the Dhayan Chand award along with hockey player Sylvanus Dung Dung and rower Rajendra Pralhad Shelke. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh, a medal and a citation
President Pranab Mukherjee will give away the awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 29, which is celebrated as the National Sports Day.

सिंधू, साक्षी, दीपा और जीतू राय को मिला खेल रत्न

भारत सरकार ने साल 2016 के खेल पुरस्कारों की घोषणा कर दी है। ओलंपिक में बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन करने वाले खिलाड़ियों को खेल पुरस्कारों में जगह दी गई है। 4 खिलाड़ियों पीवी सिंधू, दीपा कर्माकर,जीतू राय और साक्षी मलिक को खेल रत्न पुरस्कार दिया जाएगा। वहीं दीपा कर्माकर के कोच बिस्वेस्वर नंही सहित  6 को द्रोणाचार्य पुरस्कार और 15 खिलाड़ियों को अर्जुन पुरस्कार राष्ट्रीय खेल दिवस के दिन दिए जाएंगे। 

यह पहला मौका है जब राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार चार खिलाड़ियों को एक साथ दिए जा रहे हैं, इससे पहले यह पुरस्कार तीन खिलाड़ियों को एक साथ दिया गया था।

ओलंपिक में रजत पदक जीतने वाली पीवी सिंधू राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार जीतने वाली तीसरी बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी हैं। इससे पहले पुलेला गोपीचंद और साइना नेहवाल को यह पुरस्कार दिया जा चुका है।

रियो ओलंपिक में जिम्नास्टिक के फाइनल में चौथा स्थान पाकर इतिहास रचने वाली दीपा कर्माकर को भी इस वर्ष का खेल रत्न पुरस्कार  दिया जाएगा। उनके गुरु बिस्वेस्वर नंदी को भी द्रोणाचार्य पुरस्कार दिया जाएगा।

भारत को रियो ओलंपिक में पहला पदक दिलाने वाली महिला पहलवान साक्षी मलिक को भी राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार दिया जाएगा। इससे पहले ओलंपिक के रजत और कांस्य पदक विजेता पहलवान सुशील कुमार और लंदन ओलंपिक के कांस्य पदक  विजेता योग्श्वर दत्त को भी राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार से नवाजा जा चुका है।

रियो में शूटिंग के फाइनल में जगह बनाने वाले निशाने बाज जीतू राय को भी ओलंपिक और उससे पहले अन्य स्पर्धाओं में बहतरीन प्रदर्शन करने के लिए राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार से नवाजा गया है।

सिंधू ने लिख डाला सफलता का नया इतिहास

लंदन में साइना नेहवाल के कांस्य के बाद पीवी सिंधू ने आज रियो में रजत पदक जीतकर भारतीय बैडमिंटन में सफलता का जो इतिहास लिखा है वो नायाब है।

लंदन ओलंपिक में जब साइना कांस्य पदक के लिए खेल रही थी तो 16 साल की पीवी सिंधू सोच रही थी मेरा नंबर कब आएगा। जैसे-जैसे कैलेंडर के पन्ने पलटे वैसे-वैसे सिंधू की मेहनत और संकल्प और कड़ा होता चला गया।

नतीजा सारी दुनिया के सामने है कि सिंधू ने भारतीय शटल को नई ऊंचाई पर पहुंचा दिया है, नई उड़ान दे दी है। आज सिंधू ओलंपिक में भारत की सबसे सफल महिला खिलाड़ी बन गई है। और साइना के बाद दूसरी ओलंपिक पदक विजेता भी बनी। सिंधू ने अपने पहले ही ओलंपिक में रजत पदक जीतकर भारतीय खेल का इतिहास रच दिया। वह रजत जीतने वाली देश की पहली महिला खिलाड़ी बन गई हैं।

अपने ही आदर्श और सीनियर खिलाड़ी साइना के नक्शे कदम पर चलकर सिंधू ने वो हासिल कर लिया जो आज तक भारत का कोई बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी नहीं कर पाया। ऐसा करने वाली पहली भारतीय महिला तो खैर वह बन ही गईं।

रियो ओलंपिक से पहले सिंधू ने सपने को साझा किया था "ओलंपिक पदक का पीछा करना मेरी जिंदगी का सबसे बड़ा लक्ष्य है। मुझे याद है कि जब लंदन ओलंपिक में साइना खेल रहीं थीं तो मैंने उनका हर मैच बड़े ध्यान से देखा था। तब मैं विश्व रैंकिंग में 25वें नंबर पर थीं। मैंने हमेशा ओलंपिक में खेलने का ख्वाब देखा है।"

पीवी सिंधू पर नाज

ओलंपिक केइतिहास में पहली बार भारत की तरफ से सिल्वर मेडल जीतने वाली पीवी सिंधु को दिग्गजों ने सलाम किया। दिग्गजों ने कहा कि फाइनल में हारने के बाद भी पीवी सिंधु ने सभी का दिल जीत लिया । इन्होंने देश की बेटी को इस उपलब्धि पर बधाई दी।

'डायमंड आफ इंडिया'
स्पोर्ट्स डिपार्टमेंट की पूर्व डॉयरेक्टर निर्मल मिल्खा सिंह ने पीवी सिंधु को डायमंड आफ इंडिया कह अपना आशीर्वाद दिया। वर्ष 1960 में इंटर यूनिवर्सिटी चैंपियन निर्मल मिल्खा सिंह की फेवरेट गेम बैडमिंटन है। उनके अनुसार फाइनल मैच काफी उतार चढ़ाव भरा रहा। सिंधु ने काफी मेहनत की, गोल्ड की उम्मीद थी लेकिन सिल्वर मिलना भी अपने आप बड़ी उपल्ब्धि है। यह सिंधु की मेहनत और लगन का ही नतीजा है कि वह इतिहास रच सकी।

'पीवी सिंधू पर नाज' 
उड़न सिख मिल्खा सिंह ने कहा कि मुझे देश की इन बेटियों पर नाज है। पहले साक्षी ने ब्रोंज और अब पीवी सिंधु ने सिल्वर मेडल जीतकर दिखा दिया है कि
बेटियां किसी भी फील्ड में कम नही है, चाहे वह स्पोर्ट्स ही क्यों न हो।


'भारत के चेहरों पर मुस्कान दिलाई'
 तीन बार के ओलंपियन बलबीर सिंह सीनियर की बेटी सुशबीर कौर इंटर यूनिवर्सिटी हॉकी खिलाड़ी रह चुकी हैं। उनके अनुसार पीवी सिंधु ने सिल्वर मेडल

जीतकर करोड़ों देशवासियों के चेहरों पर मुस्कान दी है। इसे देश के अन्य खिलाड़ियों को इससे प्रेरणा लेनी चाहिए।

P. V. Sindhu Wins Silver at Rio Olympics

PV Sindhu has won India's second medal of the 2016 Rio Olympics, but it isn't the one she, her coach P Gopichand and all those who tuned into the gold medal women's singles badminton match at the Riocentro on Friday wished for. Sindhu, tenth in the global rankings, lost to Spain's Carolina Marin, ranked No 1, 21-12, 12-21, 15-21 to settle for silver.

Defeat will sting Sindhu, for she had rallied superbly to come back from 6-11 and win the first game, but it needed something far greater to beat a champion like Marin, who has done more for Spanish badminton than Rafael Nadal has for tennis. Marin dreamt of an Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro and made it a reality with some high-quality badminton. Sindhu can carry her head high.

Indeed, it is a remarkable achievement for the 21-year-old shuttler at her first Olympic games, coming as it did with five wins in a row, the last two of which came over the world No 2 and No 5 respectively. On the biggest day of her career, Sindhu never stopped fighting and has won the biggest prize in the history of Indian badminton - an Olympic silver, to go past Saina Nehwal's bronze four years ago in London.

Let us treasure Sindhu as long as she chooses to grace the badminton court.

Sindhu, the last of India's shuttlers at the Games, struggled during the initial exchanges, in particular against some lovely drop shots from the left-hander. Down 3-7, then 5-8 and 5-9, then 10-13. There was Sindhu for a period, at once on her knees, made to look uncomfortable, her brow furrowed as she looked at her racquet net. But she fought hard, reducing twice the deficit to a solitary point as Marin committed a flurry of errors.

Marin smashed one to lead 19-16. Surely the game was hers? No, no. Sindhu persevered, returning serves with precision and power, and the scoreline went from 17-19 to 18-19 to 19-19 and then 20-19 as chants of 'jeetega bhai jeetega' reverberated from the sizable Indian support in the stands. It was nail-biting badminton.


Then Marin messed up a return against a superb flick from Sindhu, forced to turn as she ran backward, and the shuttle flopped in her half. Sindhu roared, pumped her fists. The first game was hers.

But Marin is a champion, and went up 4-0 in the second game, then 8-2. Her shots and returns regained a heartbeat, she pushed Sindhu into errors and the momentum was snatched back. A nine-point advantage was punctuated by a ferocious smash to which Sindhu had no answer. The rest of the game saw Sindhu frustrated repeatedly, and despite scattered moments of aggression she fell behind 12-21.

The decisive third game initially went Marin's way 6-1, but Sindhu kept hitting back. Three straight points reduced the deficit to two points (10-8), which turned into 10-10 after a teasing, gasp-inducing rally full of brilliance. An error in judgement from Sindhu put her back 14-10, then Marin won a review, 16-12; a shot went out, 16-14; Marin smashed into Sindhu's body, 17-14; a dab past Sindhu and it was 18-14 and that was the shift that Marin needed to round out a dominant win.

Sindhu never gave up, but her opponent's experience and pedigree was simply too much to be overhauled.
